Iceland 03:23
We reenacted the death scene from Titanic On your last day here I was Jack and you was never coming back There was nothing I could do, you had your ticket Just as we were in the thick of it You took off to Iceland and I hit an iceberg Nothing felt as real since you left for your homeland You told everyone you’re related to Bjork But that’s not why I’m writing this song The way you tried to belong The way i knew all along I wish I hadn’t waited so long You took off to Iceland and I hit an iceberg Nothing felt as real since you left for your homeland You promised that you’d write every day, every night I got your package of photos (oh no) But that was almost a year ago Why did you have to go Just as we were saying hello (hello) You took off to Iceland and I hit an iceberg Nothing felt as real since you left for your homeland I’ll give you everything I am If you say I’m yours in that cute accent That I know you’d never lose Give me everyone you are and I’ll forget about the years of torment I’ve had to suffer losing… You took off to Iceland and I hit an iceberg Nothing felt as real since you left for your homeland

I didn’t hardly eat a thing all day Thinking about you and what you’d say Just to look in your eyes, I could cry, it could all come true I’ll run away with you Take my heart Cleo Cleo Cleo Cleopatra Eyes Take my heart Cleo Cleo Cleo Cleopatra Eyes I must have been sleeping for years and years and years and years - but now I’m in your arms, I don’t know how P-p-p-pinching myself, til I welt, did it all come true I’ll run away with you I’ll run away with you Take my heart Cleo Cleo Cleo Cleopatra Eyes Take my heart Cleo Cleo Cleo Cleopatra Eyes You can take me for a fool, oh (Cleo-cleo-cleo-cleopatra eyes) You can take me for a ride, oh You can take me for a fool, oh (Cleo-cleo-cleo-cleopatra eyes) You can take me for a ride I didn’t hardly eat a thing all day Thinking about you and what you’d say T-t-t-touching myself, no one else - til it all comes true I’ll run away with you I’ll run away with you Take my heart Cleo Cleo Cleo Cleopatra Eyes Take my heart Cleo Cleo Cleo Cleopatra Eyes

Naive 03:02
Well I was so naive, I didn’t have a clue I shoulda been more careful, I shoulda been more true The week we spent in London, I let myself unglue If I was more successful, I would have made the room But now I’m just a gypsy, my room don’t have a door Although I love you dearly, you’re calling me a whore I wrote you forty letters, you wrote me no reply But I’d be so much better… With you on my side (I was so naive) With you on my side (I was so naive) With you on my side (I was so naive) I shoulda been more careful, I shoulda been more true I shoulda been a lot of things, I should have just loved you You burned me now we’re even, but love is never fair If I was more successful, I wouldn’t even care But now I’m just old man, I’m scratching out my eyes I wouldn’t wander nowhere, If you were my blind guide Could take me thirty years, dotting all my I’s But I’d be so much better… With you on my side (I was so naive) With you on my side (I was so naive) With you on my side (I was so naive) Now I’m aware of the love waiting there Oh everywhere…. It’s everywhere…. But now I’m just old man, I’m scratching out my eyes I wouldn’t wander nowhere, If you were my blind guide Could take me 30 years, dotting all my I’s But I’d be so much better… With you on my side (I was so naive) With you on my side (I was so naive) With you on my side (I was so naive)

Next 2 U 03:50
Away from the city Away from my home Will I ever find someone? Could I ever find someone... I wanna get next to Can I get next to you? I thought my loving days were gone I was throwing in the towel So can I get next to you? Is that OK with you? You look so confident And it is no accident... That I'm getting all feely with you You took my blues away And I don't know if I should stay I'm rounding past third base You're sounding your alarms You sound like a mom "This won't ever happen again" You say with a smile more like a grin But do you have a sister? Or how 'bout some friends? Coz I'm feeling so uptight And these drugs have lost their bite So can I get next to you? Is that OK with you? You look so confident And it is no accident... That I'm getting all feely with you You took my blues away And I don't know if I should stay I'm rounding past third base But then I saw you And you were for real And everything was beautiful And you looked me in the eye and said... I wanna get next to Is that OK with you? I thought my loving days were gone I was throwing in the towel Can I get next to you? Is that OK with you? You look so confident And it is no accident That I wanna get next to you

I'd be your one and only But I'd only let you down I want your love But I don't know what I'd do with it 'Cause there's a hundred fifty thousand people better than me No, there's a hundred million people that are better for you No, there's a billion odd people that are better than me But you don't know them And they don't care about you You don't know them, and they don't care They don't care about you So I'll put away my feelings In a shoebox in the closet But now the door barely shuts With so much to hide away 'Cause there's a hundred fifty thousand people better than me No, there's a hundred million people that are better for you No, there's a billion odd people that are better than me But you don't know them And they don't care about you You don't know them and they don't care, They don't care about you I'd be your one and only But I'd only let you down I want your love But I don't know what I'd do with it 'Cause there's a hundred fifty thousand people better than me No, there's a hundred million people that are better for you No, there's a billion odd people that are better than me But you don't know them, and they don't care about you And you don't know them, and they don't care They don't care about you I'm just scared of falling in love I'm just scared of falling in love

CPR 03:00
Quit saying to me that she sells sea shells by the sea Oh, no, what’s this? Are we officially broken Or could we use some Elmer’s glue You caught me off my guard But crying’s not very smart Oh oh oh Making love isn’t hard But it hurts being torn apart Don’t run too far, coz you know I need your CPR Feeling lower than earthworms I picked up my bags and left You called a cab! High maintenance and attitude I sensed it from the start You shot me in the dark But crying’s not very smart Making love isn’t hard But it hurts being torn apart Don’t run too far, coz you know I need your CPR And if you are really through How will I even survive without you? Making love isn’t hard But it hurts being torn apart Don’t run too far, coz you know I need your CPR Making love isn’t hard But it hurts being torn apart Don’t run too far, coz you know I need your CPR Don’t run too far, coz you know I need your CPR

There are too many things to say Now that we don't talk to another To another I don't miss the way you pulled me down I couldn't get up, I couldn't get out I couldn't shake you, so I started to shout I'm so done with you I can't even feel my fingers I would rather die Than live through this hell again But I'd rather me than you Two fuzzy February's have passed But you're still as clear as May or June or July And I don't wanna die… I don't wanna die without love on my side I don't wanna die without love on my side I'm so done with you I can't even feel my fingers I would rather die Than live through this hell again But I'd rather me than you Who needs the temptation If we fall, congratulations I’m in need of a vacation in the sun Who needs the temptation If we fall, congratulations I’m in need of a vacation in the sun My nails grew short over the summer But I took it out in writing songs No one could understand And I don't wanna die without love on my side I don't wanna die I'm so done with you I can't even feel my fingers I would rather die Than live through this hell again But I'd rather me than you I'm so done with you I'm so done with you I'm so done with you I'm so done with you

Warm coke and rum on a fuzzy afternoon Pre-funk before tonight's big party I've been laying out my clothes Throwing up by five, before festivities begin Too pumped for tonight's big party I've been calling all my friends But you don't know it's you that's making me sick Before tonight's big party I've been laying out my clothes Before tonight's big party I've been calling all my friends Before tonight's big party But you don't know it's you that's making me sick Before tonight's big party I've been laying out my clothes Before tonight's big party I've been calling all my friends Before tonight's big party Sobered up by nine, I'm the first one to arrive You're late for tonight's big party I didn't recognize a soul There's Jon E Rock, who'd he bring with him tonight I'm bummed at tonight's big party I didn't even say goodbye But you don't know it's you that's making me sick Before tonight's big party I've been laying out my clothes Before tonight's big party I've been calling all my friends Before tonight's big party I didn't recognize a soul Before tonight's big party I didn't even say goodbye

Ready To Fly 02:34
I'd hardly say I got a thing for you You're so square You know you complicate the things I do You're so square Well, I'm not sure what you are used to But killing time is killing me too I can't stand us going nowhere I'm ready to fly - bye, bye, bye When I need some advice from you You’re not there When I tell you that I’m misunderstood You don’t care Well, I'm not sure what you are used to But killing time is killing me too I can't stand us going nowhere I'm ready to fly - bye, bye, bye Well I know what it takes to be loved by you I know what it means to be touched by you Well I know what it takes to be loved by you I know what it means to be touched by you I have to say I kinda love the way You don’t care Coz you know why I fell for you, You’re so square Well, I'm not sure what you are used to But killing time is killing me too I can't stand us going nowhere I'm ready to fly - bye, bye, bye

You look like I could use a drink I never have time to stop and think Who even owns these songs I sing It's time we read the fine print (Who wants to be a superstar?) They'll tell you the love you But all they want is money (Who wants to be a superstar?) And when they make promises Get 'em in writing Sometimes I feel like they all hate music They'll wine you and dine you, but never put out And by the time you're in the sack you're already bored It's time we read the fine print (Who wants to be a superstar?) They'll tell you the love you But all they want is money (Who wants to be a superstar?) And when they make promises Get 'em in writing I smell a lawsuit I smell a lawsuit Who wants to be a superstar Superstar (Who wants to be a superstar?) They'll tell you the love you But all they want is money (Who wants to be a superstar?) And when they make promises Get 'em in writing

I’ve been lying again I don’t know where it began Even though I love you I know I’ll find a way to let you down Good things never hang around Now I’m hiding again Don’t know who are my friends But they’re all gone and I’m crazy for thinking that they’d stay here by my side While I keep it all inside Now I’m crying again I don’t know where it began Who put this dream of love that will not ever die inside of me Why can’t it be reality? Oh why-yi-yi-yi-yi? Oh why-yi-yi-yi-yi? Oh why-yi-yi-yi-yi?
14.
Who cares what it's about You say you want it out Well, I'd treat you good But you'd only have me I won't stand in your way If you need to go away And clear your head Of something I've said or done It all comes down to now Would you make your mind up somehow To take me or leave me I should have guessed it The stains on your dresses Well, I'd treat you good But you'd only have me It all comes down to now Would you make your mind up somehow To take me or leave me I'd take the weekends over the holidays I could teach him to know his pace Tell me, tell me, oh what you saw In your menage a trois I'd treat you good But you'd only have me It all comes down to now Would you make your mind up somehow To take me or leave me It all comes down to now Would you make your mind up somehow To take me or leave me Take me or leave me Take me or leave me

Come on right in and have a seat and mellow out I’ve been wasting my time Would you waste your time with me? I’ve just been thinking about my life and my friends We'll make it through the darkness On a whisper and a scream You know it won’t be long now I can almost taste it It isn’t right or wrong now We might as well embrace it The things we do to get through So all in all I’ve been feeling down and out But I keep you around Yeah, I keep you around Coz you can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends Yesterday I went down to the bridge over the pond And I saw a body floating I think I recognized his face Maybe I was sound asleep at home in my bed But it was kinda weird man It felt like I had been erased You know it won’t be long now I can almost taste it It isn’t right or wrong now We might as well embrace it The things we do to get through So all in all I’ve been feeling down and out But I keep you around Yeah, I keep you around Coz you can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends So all in all I’ve been feeling down and out But I keep you around Yeah, I keep you around Coz you can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends You can’t make new old friends

about

2021 marks the 20th anniversary of Dolour’s debut LP - and to commemorate this milestone I’ve returned to the 4 original-era albums to ‘renew my vows’ with some of my favorite early songs. And once I got going the project took on a life of its own, with many of the songs taking new twists and turns along the way. I started recording this right on the heels of finishing 'Televangelist' - still in the middle of lockdown without live music options, so it gave me a chance to dig into these songs and get ready for performing them live again in the, hopefully, near future. I wanted the sequence of songs to feel like the ultimate early Dolour setlist.

'Origin Story' features 15 vintage Dolour songs re-recorded and reimagined from scratch. Exclusively through Bandcamp you can order it as a CD, Vinyl, or high-res digital tracks. I had a lot of fun tearing these songs apart and rebuilding them. I’m really excited to hear what longtime fans think of these new versions and for new fans to discover these songs for the first time. This is my Origin Story.
